[edit] Background Information
- At some point in-between the last movie and this one, Hercules slayed the Nemean Lion. According to myth, slaying the Nemean Lion was the first of the Twelve Labors. Like in the myth, Hercules kept its skin (though he doesn't wear it as regular clothing).
- Hercules and Hades are shown to already know each other. Their first meeting would be depicted on the Young Hercules episode, "A Lady in Hades".
- According to this movie, this is the first meeting between Hercules and Charon, and no one alive has ever entered the Underworld before. That would all be retconned, though – specifically in "A Lady in Hades".
- This movie begins a running gag of Hercules never paying Charon for trips across the River Styx – something that Charon always complains about ("The Other Side", "Highway to Hades", "You Are There"). Additionally, Hercules takes and loses his lantern – another thing that Charon complains about ("The Other Side", "Highway to Hades").
- This is the only time that Mark Ferguson plays Hades. He would later be replaced by Erik Thomson for Hades' appearances on HTLJ, XWP and YH. Thomson would end up being replaced by Stephen Lovatt for the character's appearances during XWP's fifth season.
- Stig Eldred would later play other roles in the franchise – Belus ("The March to Freedom"); Maceus ("Cast a Giant Shadow"); Titus ("King Con"); Gagman ("War Wounds"); Balian ("The Head That Wears the Crown"); and Magistrate ("A Wicked Good Time").
- Hercules facing Cerberus is somewhat inspired by the twelfth of the Twelve Labors. However, the actual labor had Heracles/Hercules taking Cerberus to King Eurystheus and then bringing him back to the Underworld (after Eurystheus expressed fear of the dog).
