Solan was the unknown son of Xena. He was portrayed by david taylor and later by Nicko Vella.

 He is the Son of Xena and Borias. During Xena's pregnancy with Solan, Alti cursed her unborn child, in order to prevent Xena changing her dark ways as Alti knew that Xena's child would eventually bring Xena back to the light. Xena escaped from Alti, However, the prophecy would later be fulfilled and Solan never knew the love of either of his parents.  Shortly after Xena gives birth to him, Borias is killed by Dagnine and a woman named Satrina, Xena's ex-slave. Borias's abandonment and death made Xena eventually realize what a monster she had become. Afraid she would be a bad influence on her child, She gave her newborn son Solan to the centaur Kaleipus, because she believed that he did not deserve a mother like her, and so he would be raised in safety and away from her dangerous influence or a target to her enemies. So, Solan never knew his father, or that the ex-warlord Xena was his mother.  

Ten years later, Xena finds Solan now nearly nine/ten years old, and discovers that he  blames her for Borias's death, because he thinks she is the woman who killed his father. Xena manages to convince him that she is not responsible andbecomes friendly with him, but does not have the courage to tell him that she is his mother. When Callisto is freed from the lava pit by Hope, they work togeather to kill Solan, Callisto attacks the centaurs to try and kill all the children. When his uncle kaleipus is killed by Hope while searching for Solan in the Ixion caves, Solan convinces Xena to go with her and Gabrielle on the road, Xena finally has the courage to tell Solan the truth but Solan is killed by Hope in Kaleipus hut before Xena had the chance as revenge for Xena's attempt for killing her as a baby. Solan's death and Gabrielle's lies, result a bitter fight between Xena and Gabrielle. Xena is compeltey deveasted by Solan death, she leaves Gabrielle and mourns for her Solan in the moutains, Xena reverts back to her evil self in her greif and she even tries to kill Gabrielle for justice over his death. It is revealed that Solan was responsibile for Illusia and he  helps Gabrielle and Xena reconile, In Illusia it is there he finally learns that Xena is his mother and Xena sings to him for forgivness, they reunite just before Xena and Gabrielle go back to the normal world.

  

in the fith season episode God Fearing Child, xena finds that Solan chose to go to Tartarus instead of the Elysian Fields, because once there he would forget about his mother, xena rescues him and leads him to the fields but Solan still doesnt want go and wants to be with his mother and is jealous of Xena's new baby, Xena conffeses to him that she was a bad person but after she had him, it was he who helped relaize her that she couldnt be all bad and that Solan was her vision of Hope.  After reaching the fields Xena then gives Solan the helmet, to  escape from Hades and his warriors, Solan then finally  enters the Elysian Fields. Xena and Solan say goodbye for the last time just before Xena goes into labour. Xena gives birth to a girl and names her Eve, Solan named the baby Eve when they were in Tartarus, Xena sits alone with her Eve and She tells Solan they will all be together forever, as she wathces the sky

It is revealed later that Solan also has an older half-brother named Belach from his father's side. Both his death and Borias's death help Belach relaize that all the things he has done were wrong.

Xena was deeply saddened by Solan's death and she was so full of rage that she even dragged Gabrielle and tried to kill her for justice over his death. It was Solan who was behind the land of Illusia, he helped Gabrielle and Xena eventually reconile. After Solan went to the Elysian Fields, Xena told Solan that she will always be there forever Before Solan went to the Elysian fields, Xena told Solan that he was her vison of Hope.

in year 5, after binding celesta, the goddess of death, xena mentioned solan, along with Marcus and lyceus, as one of those who was killed before their righhtful time.

In the comic army of darkness, Gabrielle has a son whom she named Solan in honor of him.
